Altar Servers

Liturgical

Altar Servers assist the priest during Mass. Boys and girls, who are at least 9 years of age and have made their First Communion are eligible to serve.

Arts and Environment Committee

Other

To facilitate the enhancement of the beauty of our liturgical celebrations, this group plans and creates appropriate decorations and fresh flower arrangements for the church, chapel, entrances, and common areas.

BLAZE

Other

BLAZE is a Walking with Purpose ministry for 8th-12th grade girls that counteracts the way our society drives girls to question their IDENTITY, worth, and beauty.

Cantors and Instrumentalists

Special ministries for those gifted with individual talent and extra training. Requires an interview with the Music Director.

Children’s Choir

6 hours/month. Open to all in grade levels 2nd-6th. Weekly practice September through early June.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) Catechists

During Children’s Liturgy of the Word, children are dismissed from the adult assembly to hear the Gospel at their level of understanding.

22-hour commitment to each feast. Organized to celebrate the feasts of Christmas and Holy Week/Easter.

Edge is a dynamic, Christ-centered middle school program that incorporates fun and community-building activities with solid faith content and prayer experiences.

Eucharistic Ministers

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist are confirmed adults, approved by the pastor, and serve others in a threefold way: assist in the distribution of Communion; take Communion to those unable to attend Mass; conduct Communion Service in the absence of a priest.

Family Choir

Family & Marriage

12 hours/month. Membership is open to all. Weekly practice is on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.

Folk Group

Other

12 hours/month. Membership is by interview for 6th Grade – Adults. Weekly practice is on Mondays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays before 11 a.m. Mass.

FOOD PANTRY

Social Justice & Outreach

Donated perishable food from our parishioners is collected to assist families in need. We coordinate with Social Services on a monthly basis.

Funeral Hospitality Ministry

Bereavement

This ministry offers hospitality resources for families that are preparing for the funeral of a loved one.

Homebound Ministers

Health & Wellness

The ministers embody the care of the community for its sick members. Parishioners take the Eucharist and share scripture and prayer with those unable to come to church.

Hospital Ministers

Other

These ministers extend themselves to those hospitalized. They share the Eucharist, scripture, prayer and “listen with the heart” to concerns of the patient.

Four groups meet monthly to reflect on Sunday Scriptures. The focus of this ministry is writing an opening commentary and Universal Prayer (formerly known as “Prayers of the Faithful”) for weekend Liturgy.

Our Liturgy Committee draws on the liturgical seasons of the Church to fashion celebrations of faith consistent with the liturgical norms of the Catholic Church.

Parishioners coordinate a schedule and provide home-delivered meals to the elderly and those convalescing.

St. Nicholas Catholic Church ministers to the sick, home & facility-bound, and bereaved of the parish through a variety of Pastoral Care services.

Purificator Ministry

Other

Purificators are the linen cloths used to dry sacred vessels at liturgies. Laundering of about 30 purificators per week is done at home.

A small vocal ensemble for singers with advanced musical skills and choral experience.

In thanksgiving for our many blessings, parishioners reach out to those in the community who are less fortunate during the holidays through a second collection which supports the preparation of one hundred Thanksgiving baskets.
