Bishop of Mao-Monte Cristi
Diómedes Espinal de León was born in Villa Trina, in the Archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros, on August 25, 1949. After his studies at the "San Pio X" Minor Seminary, he pursued philosophy courses from 1970 to 1974 at the "Madre y Maestra" Catholic University, where he obtained a Licentiate degree. From 1974 to 1978, he studied at the "Santo Tomás de Aquino" Major Seminary in Santo Domingo, earning a Licentiate in Religious Sciences. He was ordained a priest on July 22, 1978. In 1978, he was appointed Vice-Rector of the "San Pio X" Minor Seminary, and served as its Rector from 1979 to 1984. From 1986 to 1989, he was a professor at the "Santo Tomás de Aquino" Major Seminary, and from 1989 to 1992, he served as pastor of the "Nuestra Señora del Rosario" parish. In 1992, he returned to teaching at the Major Seminary. From 1995 to 1997, he attended the Pontifical University of Salamanca, where he obtained a Licentiate in Canon Law. Upon returning to his home country, he was once again appointed a professor at the "Santo Tomás de Aquino" Major Seminary. He is currently the Rector of the "San Pio X" Minor Seminary in Santiago de los Caballeros, a position he has held since 1998.
