Bishop of Rawson
Bishop Roberto Pío Álvarez was born in Córdoba on 5 May 1968. He attended the major seminary in Córdoba and obtained a licentiate in Biblical Theology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina in Buenos Aires. He was ordained a priest on 14 December 1998. He held the following offices: parish vicar of the parishes of María Madre de Dios in Villa del Dique and Santa Mónica y San Agustín; professor or lecturer at the seminary in Córdoba; parish administrator of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Salsipuedes and Nuestra Señora de Fátima in Cosquín; and parish priest of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores in Río Ceballos and Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Cosquín. On 28 November 2017 he was appointed titular bishop of Sozopoli di Emimonto and auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Comodoro Rivadavia, receiving episcopal ordination the following 22 December. Within the Argentine Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the Episcopal Commission for Catechesis, Animation and Biblical Pastoral Care and of the Episcopal Commission for Caritas.
