Archbishop of Yucatán
Gustavo Rodríguez Vega was born in Monterrey on March 7, 1955. He pursued his ecclesiastical studies in Monterrey and subsequently completed his training at the Sedes Sapientiae Institute in Mexico City. He was ordained a priest on August 15, 1980. He obtained a Licentiate in Theology, specializing in the Social Doctrine of the Church, from the Pontifical Gregorian University. As a priest, he served as Prefect of Discipline and Studies at the Minor Seminary of Monterrey, Prefect and Professor at the Major Seminary, Chaplain for Catholic Action and the diocesan Caritas, Director of the Archdiocesan Secretariat for Evangelization and Catechesis, and finally, Rector of the Monterrey Seminary. On June 27, 2001, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Obba and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Monterrey, receiving episcopal ordination on August 14 of that year. On October 8, 2008, he was appointed Bishop of Nuevo Laredo. On May 14, 2015, he was elected President of the Commission for Social Pastoral Care (Caritas) of the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM).
