Archbishop of Zagreb
Dražen Kutleša was born on September 25, 1968, in Tomislavgrad, Bosnia and Herzegovina. After completing his seminary studies in Dubrovnik, he continued his studies in philosophy and theology at the Theological Seminary in Sarajevo. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Mostar-Duvno on June 29, 1993. In 1994, he obtained a baccalaureate degree from the Catholic Faculty of Theology at the University of Zagreb, and in 2001, he earned a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Urban University. From 1993 to 1995, he served as a parochial vicar at the Mostar Cathedral. From 1998 to 2006, Msgr. Kutleša held the following positions: parish administrator in Grude, lecturer in canon law at the Theological Institute in Mostar, vice-chancellor of the episcopal curia, member of the College of Consultors and the Presbyteral Council, and member of the "Justice and Peace" Commission of the Bishops' Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina. From 2006, he worked at the Congregation for Bishops. Since 2011, he has been a collaborator with the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. He is the author of several publications and contributes to the Catholic monthly *Crkva na kamenu* (Church on the Rock). Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of Poreč-Pula on October 17, 2011. He was ordained bishop at the Poreč Cathedral on December 10, 2011. Pope Francis appointed him Coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Split-Makarska on July 11, 2020, and he assumed office on September 3, 2020, at the Split Cathedral. He assumed the office of Archbishop of Split-Makarska on May 13, 2022. Pope Francis appointed him Coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Zagreb on February 14, 2023. He assumed the office of Archbishop of Zagreb on April 15, 2023. On July 13, 2022, the Holy Father appointed him a member of the Dicastery for Bishops. He was elected President of the Croatian Conference of Bishops at the 65th plenary session of the Conference on October 18, 2022.
