Bishop Andrea Migliavacca

Bishop Andrea Migliavacca was born on 29 August 1967 in Pavia, in the diocese of the same name. He entered the diocesan seminary in 1986, received priestly ordination on 27 June 1992, and was incardinated in the diocese of Pavia. In 1996 he was awarded a degree in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He has held the following offices: ecclesiastical assistant to the scout group (1996-2000); lecturer in canon law at the Theological Study of the Seminary and the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences of Pavia-Vigevano (1996); pastoral collaborator at the parish of San Genesio ed Uniti (1996-1997); parish administrator of San Genesio ed Uniti (1997-1998) and from 1997, deputy episcopal chancellor; ACR and youth sector assistant at diocesan Catholic Action (1997-2008); from 1997 judge of the Regional Ecclesiastical Court of Lombardy, deputy judicial vicar of the diocese and from 2007 diocesan judicial vicar (1997-2007); parish administrator of Albuzzano (1998); secretary of the 20th Diocesan Synod (1999-2002); head of the service for youth ministry and oratories (1999-2010); regional assistant of the youth sector of Catholic Action (1999-2001); unitary assistant of diocesan Catholic Action (2001-2003); since 2001 Rector of the diocesan seminary and director of the Diocesan Vocations Centre, professor of religion at the San Giorgio Classical Lyceum (2005-2012); since 2007 diocesan assistant for the lay consultancy; since 2012 canon of the Cathedral Chapter and since 2014 professor of Canon Law at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy. He was elected bishop of San Miniato on 5 October 2015, receiving episcopal consecration the following 9 December. He began his ministry in the diocese of San Miniato on 20 December 2015. Within the Tuscan Episcopal Conference, since 2019 he has served as delegate for the Pastoral Care of Leisure, Tourism and Sport, and for Health Pastoral Care. Within the Italian Episcopal Conference, since 29 September 2021 he has served as president of the Council for Legal Affairs and member of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith, Proclamation and Catechesis. In addition, since 2019 he has been a member of the College for the Examination of Appeals at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and since 2021 a Member of the Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura. In 2019, the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life appointed him Pontifical Commissioner of the Compagnia di Sant’Orsola - Istituto Secolare di Sant’Angela Mericidi Siena.
