Archbishop of Alep (Syrian)
Denys Antoine Chahda is Archbishop of Alep [Beroea, Halab] (Syrian), Syria. Chorbishop Antoine Chahda was born in Aleppo, Syria, on 19 August 1946. He entered the minor seminary of Charfet, Lebanon, in 1965 to pursue studies. He studied philosophy and theology at Saint-Esprit University of Kaslik in Lebanon. Ordained a priest on 1 July 1973, he served the Syriac faithful in Aleppo for six years. In 1979 he was transferred to Maracay in Venezuela. He undertook the construction of a parish complex to gather and help Syriac immigrant families and young people in Venezuela, following the social problems experienced in recent decades in the Middle East. On 22 June 2001, the Holy Father appointed him apostolic exarch for the Syrian Catholic faithful resident in Venezuela.
