Archbishop of Capua
Pietro Lagnese was born on September 9, 1961, in Vitulazio, within the Archdiocese of Capua, in the province of Caserta. He completed his formation at the Capodimonte Major Seminary in Naples, attending the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy (Saint Thomas Section), where he obtained a Licentiate in Sacred Theology. He was ordained a priest on May 1, 1986. He held the following positions: Parish Priest of Santa Maria dell’Agnena in Vitulazio (1987–2013); Secretary of the Diocesan Synod (1988–1993); Spiritual Director at the Capodimonte Major Seminary; Member of the College of Consultors; and Regional Coordinator for Family Ministry. elected to the episcopal see of Ischia on February 23, 2013, he received episcopal consecration on May 1 of that same year. He was transferred to Caserta on December 19, 2020. Within the Italian Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the Episcopal Commission for Social Problems and Labor, Justice, and Peace. He also serves as the Delegate Bishop for Family and Life for the Episcopal Conference of Campania. The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Archdiocese of Capua presented by H.E. Msgr. Salvatore Visco and has appointed His Excellency the Most Reverend Msgr. Pietro Lagnese, Bishop of Caserta, as Archbishop of the same Archdiocese, uniting the two sees *in persona Episcopi* (in the person of the Bishop). H.E. Msgr.
