Bishop of Keta-Akatsi
Bishop Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, S.V.D., Bishop of Keta-Akatsi, was born on March 24, 1956, in Accra, Ghana. He entered the novitiate of the Society of the Divine Word at Nkwatia-Kwahu and made his simple vows on December 8, 1980. He studied philosophy (1976-1979) and theology (1980-1983) at St. Victor Major Seminary in Tamale, and later obtained a licentiate and a doctorate in missiology in the United States. After a year of pastoral experience in the Diocese of Sunyani, which concluded with his solemn profession in 1984, he was ordained a priest on July 14, 1985. He then served as parochial vicar of St. Augustine in Aesewa (1985-1988) and of St. Maria Goretti in Battor (1988-1991); studied for a licentiate in missiology at Loyola University in Chicago (1991-1993); served as vice-rector of the Divine Word formation house in Tamale and professor at St. Victor Major Seminary (1994-2001); completed a doctorate in missiology at Fuller Theological College in California (2001-2005); and served as provincial of the Society of the Divine Word and president of the Conference of Major Superiors in Ghana (2005-2007). On June 12, 2007, he was appointed Prefect of Donkorkrom, following the erection of the apostolic prefecture. On January 19, 2010, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Ita and Vicar Apostolic of Donkorkrom. He received episcopal ordination on April 17, 2010, with Léon Kalenga Badikebele as principal consecrator and Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle and Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai as co-consecrators. On March 16, 2017, he was appointed Bishop of Keta-Akatsi, and he was installed on May 13, 2017. He has served as president of the Episcopal Commission for Missionary Works in Ghana.
