Archbishop Juarez Sousa Da Silva

Archbishop-elect Juarez Sousa da Silva was born on 30 June 1961 in Barras, in the diocese of Campmo Maior, State of Piauí. He studied philosophy and theology at the Sagrado Coração de Jesus Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Teresina-PI. He was subsequently awarded a licentiate in Church history at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1998-2001). On 19 March 1994 he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Campo Maior. He has held the following offices: parish administrator of São José in Altos-PI; vice rector and treasurer of the Sagrado Coração de Jesus Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Teresina-PI; director and professor at the Professore dell’ Instituto Católico de Estudos Superiores do Piauí (ICESPI). On 27 February 2008 he was appointed as bishop of Oeiras, receiving episcopal consecration the following 17 May. On 6 January 2016 he was appointed as coadjutor bishop of Parnaíba, becoming ordinary the following 24 August. Within the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil, he is a member of the Permanent Council and president of the Regionale Nordeste 4, which includes the ecclesiastical circumscriptions of the State of Piauí.
