Archbishop Irineu Roman

Irineu Roman, C.S.I., was born on August 10, 1958, in Vista Alegre do Prata, in the Diocese of Caxias do Sul, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. He pursued his studies in philosophy at the Imaculada Conceição Faculty in Viamão (RS) and at the University of Caxias do Sul (RS), and his studies in theology at the *Instituto Teológico do Norte do Paraná* in Londrina (PR) and at the Pontifical Catholic University of Porto Alegre (RS). He made his religious profession on January 2, 1988, in the Congregation of Saint Joseph (Giuseppini del Murialdo) and was ordained a priest on January 1, 1990. During his priestly ministry, he held the following positions: professor, bursar, and formator at the Josephite Seminary in Fazenda Souza (RS); professor and formator at the Murialdo College in Ana Rech (RS); parochial vicar in Fazenda Souza (RS), Ana Rech (RS), and Planaltina (DF); and pastor of Santa Edwiges in Belém (PA), in the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará, where he also served as a member of the Presbyteral Council and as an episcopal vicar. On January 8, 2014, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Sertei and Auxiliary Bishop of Belém do Pará, receiving episcopal ordination on March 19 of that year. Within the Brazilian Bishops' Conference, he is responsible for the Pastoral Care of Religious Tourism and serves as Secretary of the *Regional Norte 2*, which encompasses the ecclesiastical jurisdictions of the State of Pará.
