Bishop Jesús María López Mauléon

Jesús María López Mauléon, O.A.R., was born on March 5, 1955, in Mues, in the province of Navarre and the Archdiocese of Pamplona y Tudela (Spain). He pursued philosophy studies at the San Nicolás de Tolentino Seminary in Fuenterrabía, Guipúzcoa, Spain (1973–1975), and theology studies at the Major Seminary of Marcilla, Navarre (1976–1981). Subsequently, he obtained a Baccalaureate in Pastoral Theology (1986–1987) and a Licentiate in Biblical Theology (2002) from the Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid. He made his religious profession in the Order of Augustinian Recollects on October 18, 1980, and was ordained a priest on July 18, 1981. During his priestly ministry, he held the following positions: Parochial Vicar of San Sebastián in Chiclana de la Frontera, Cádiz, Spain (1982–1986); Parochial Vicar of Santa Rita in Madrid (1987–1991); Parish Priest in Sástago, Zaragoza (1991–1994); Parish Priest of Santa María del Águila in Almería (1994–1997); and teacher at the secondary school in Lodosa, Navarre (1997–1999). In August 1999, he went to Brazil, where he served in the following roles: in the Diocese of Tianguá (Ceará), he was Parochial Vicar of Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres in Guaraciaba do Norte and a theology teacher (1999–2001); in the Diocese of Cachoeiro do Itapemirim (Espírito Santo), he was Parochial Vicar of Nossa Senhora da Consolação at the diocesan seat; in the Diocese of Franca (São Paulo), he was Parish Priest of Nossa Senhora Aparecida in the city where the see is located and a philosophy teacher at the Augustinian Institute (2003–2011); He served as a parochial vicar in the Augustinian mission in the Prelature of Lábrea (Amazonas) and as a theology professor in Rio Branco (Acre) in 2001; in the Archdiocese of Fortaleza (Ceará), he served as a parochial vicar and coordinator of the team of priests for the Barra do Ceará pastoral area (2011–2012). He currently exercises his ministry in Fortaleza (Ceará) as the parish priest of São Pedro and Episcopal Vicar for the Nossa Senhora da Assunção region.
