Bishop Bernard Emmanuel Kasanda Mulenga, Bishop of Mbujimayi, was born on December 25, 1954, at Kananga, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Mbujimayi on August 6, 1981. On February 14, 1998, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Mbujimayi and Titular Bishop of Utimmira. He received episcopal ordination on June 14, 1998, at Mbujimayi, with Tharcisse Tshibangu Tshishiku as principal consecrator and Godefroid Mukeng'a Kalond and Valentin Masengo Nkinda as co-consecrators. On August 1, 2009, he was appointed Bishop of Mbujimayi.
