Bishop of Roraima
Bishop Evaristo Pascoal Spengler, O.F.M., Bishop of Roraima, was born on March 29, 1959, in Gaspar, in the Diocese of Blumenau, in the State of Santa Catarina. He made his religious profession in the Order of Friars Minor on August 2, 1982, was ordained a deacon on November 21, 1982, and was ordained a priest on May 19, 1984. He completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the Franciscan Theological Institute at Petrópolis, and later attended courses in biblical studies in Brazil and Chile and obtained a licentiate in biblical exegesis at Jerusalem (1996-1998). In the course of his ministry he served as parochial vicar and a member of the urban biblical team at Duque de Caxias and at Nilópolis; assistant master of student friars at Duque de Caxias; conventual assistant at the convent of Santo Antônio in Rio de Janeiro; missionary and parochial vicar for eleven years at Malanje, Angola; and provincial definitor. From January 2016 he served as vice-minister of the Immaculate Conception Franciscan Province of Brazil, based in São Paulo. On June 1, 2016, he was appointed Prelate of Marajó. He received episcopal ordination on August 6, 2016, with Leonardo Ulrich Steiner as principal consecrator and Alberto Taveira Corrêa and Mauro Morelli as co-consecrators. He was installed as Prelate of Marajó on August 27, 2016. On January 25, 2023, he was appointed Bishop of Roraima, and he was installed on March 25, 2023.
