Archbishop of Omaha
Michael G. McGovern was born on July 1, 1964, in Chicago, within the Archdiocese of the same name. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Loyola University Chicago and studied at the DePaul University College of Law. After entering the seminary, he pursued his ecclesiastical studies at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago on May 21, 1994. He held the following positions: Parochial Vicar at Queen of the Universe in Chicago (1995–1998), Saint Mary in Lake Forest (1998–1999), and Saint Juliana in Chicago (2003–2004); Assistant Chancellor (1998–1999) and Vice Chancellor (1999–2000); Delegate of the Archbishop for priests from outside the diocese and foreign priests (2000–2002); and Pastor of Saint Mary in Lake Forest (2004–2016) and Saint Raphael the Archangel in Old Mill Creek (2016–2020). Appointed Bishop of Belleville on April 3, 2020, he received episcopal ordination on July 22 of that year.
