Bishop of Leopoldina
Edson José Oriolo dos Santos was born on September 18, 1964, in Itajubá, in the Archdiocese of Pouso Alegre, in the state of Minas Gerais. He completed his philosophy studies at the Archdiocesan Seminary of Pouso Alegre and his theology studies at the *Instituto Sagrado Coração de Jesus* in Taubaté. He subsequently obtained a specialization in philosophy from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and a licentiate in social philosophy from the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas. Furthermore, he took courses in marketing and people management at Gama Filho University in Rio de Janeiro. He was ordained a priest on May 5, 1990, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Pouso Alegre, where he held the following positions: parochial vicar of São Sebastião in São Sebastião da Bela Vista and of São Francisco de Paula in Ouro Fino; professor of philosophy at the archdiocesan seminary; parish priest of Nossa Senhora do Carmo in Borda da Mata; canon of the Metropolitan Chapter; Promoter of Justice at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Pouso Alegre; episcopal vicar for the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation; and parish priest of the Metropolitan Cathedral. On April 15, 2015, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Segia and Auxiliary Bishop of Belo Horizonte, receiving episcopal ordination on July 11 of that same year.
