H.E. Msgr. Tomáš Galis, Bishop of Žilina. Born on December 22, 1950, in Selice (Šaľa district). 1971–1976: Studies at the Cyril and Methodius Faculty of Theology (CMBF) in Bratislava. 1993–1995: Studies at the Pontifical Theological Academy in Kraków. 1998: Doctor of Sacred Theology (Th.D.) from CMBF, Comenius University. Priestly ordination: June 6, 1976. 1976–1979: Chaplain in Hriňová. 1979–1980: Chaplain in Brezno. 1980–1988: Parish administrator in Lazany. 1988–1990: Parish administrator in Kľak (also serving Veľké Pole). 1990: Parish priest and Dean in Banská Bystrica; Vicar General. 1990–1993: Vicar General of the Diocese of Banská Bystrica. 1990–1999: Rector of the St. Francis Xavier Seminary in Badín. 1999–2008: Vicar General of the Diocese of Banská Bystrica and Auxiliary Bishop. Episcopal ordination: September 25, 1999, at the Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Banská Bystrica. Liaison between the Conference of Bishops of Slovakia (KBS) and the Congregation for Catholic Education. Appointed Bishop of Žilina on February 14, 2008.
