Archbishop of Hartford
Christopher J. Coyne was born on June 17, 1958, in Woburn, Massachusetts. He attended the University of Lowell, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, and Saint John Seminary in Brighton, where he obtained a Master of Divinity degree in 1990. He earned a Licentiate (1990–1993) and a Doctorate (1993–1995) in Sacred Liturgy from the Pontifical Atheneum of Saint Anselm in Rome. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Boston on June 7, 1986. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: Parochial Vicar at Saint Mary of the Hills Parish in Milton (1986–1989); Professor at Saint John Seminary (1995–2002); Diocesan Director of the Office for Worship (1999–2002); Cabinet Secretary for Public Relations and Spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Boston (2002–2005); Pastor of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Newton (2005–2006); and Pastor of Saint Margaret Mary Parish in Westwood (2006–2011). Appointed Titular Bishop of Mopta and Auxiliary Bishop of Indianapolis on January 14, 2011, he received episcopal ordination on March 2 of that year. He served as Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis from 2011 to 2012. Within the Bishops' Conference, he was recently elected Chairman of the Committee on Communications and is a member of the Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis and the Subcommittee on Certification for Ecclesial Ministry and Service.
