Bishop Jean-Marc Eychenne

Jean-Marc Eychenne was born on November 2, 1956, in Pamiers, in the diocese of the same name. After joining the Communauté Saint-Martin, he pursued his studies in philosophy and theology at the Seminary of Genoa, obtaining a Baccalaureate from the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy. During the 1985–1986 period, he earned a Licentiate in Theology from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). He was ordained a priest on July 3, 1982, for the Archdiocese of Genoa. In 1994, he was incardinated into the Diocese of Orléans. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: Novice Master of the Communauté Saint-Martin (1982–1985); teacher at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences in Genoa and formator for Communauté Saint-Martin seminarians in Genoa (1986–1987); parochial vicar in the Diocese of Orléans (1987–1989); chaplain of the Cours Saint-Charles (1988–2000); moderator parish priest (1989–1996); dean parish priest (1996–2002); student chaplain (2000–2009); episcopal vicar (2002–2009); parish priest (2003–2009); vicar general (2009–2014); and person in charge of ministry formation (2010–2014). On December 17, 2014, he was appointed Bishop of Pamiers and received episcopal ordination on the following February 15. Within the French Episcopal Conference, he served as a member of the Permanent Council (2019–2022). He is a member of the Council for Interreligious Relations and New Religious Movements. He began university studies in philosophy at the University of Paris-Sorbonne. During the 1985–1986 period, he prepared for and passed the examination for the Licentiate in Theology at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. He was ordained a priest on July 4, 1982. Initially incardinated in the Archdiocese of Genoa, he has been a member of the clergy of Orléans since 1994. Following his ordination, he served as Novice Master for the Communauté Saint-Martin (1982–1985), then as a teacher at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences in Genoa and as a formator for Communauté Saint-Martin seminarians in Genoa (1986–1987). In 1987, he was sent to the Diocese of Orléans, where he first served as parochial vicar of Madeleine d’Orléans-Chécy (1987–1989) and subsequently as Episcopal Vicar for Youth, while also collaborating with the parish of Jargeau (1989–1995). From 1995 to 2004, he was the parish priest of Saint-Yves de la Source, and from 2004 to 2008, he served as Episcopal Vicar for the Val-de-Loire et Sologne pastoral zone. Since 2008, he has served as Vicar General of the Diocese of Orléans.
