Bishop James Romen Boiragi

Bishop James Romen Boiragi, Bishop of Khulna, was born on May 3, 1955, in the village of Holdibunia, in St. Paul's parish, Shelabunia, in the Diocese of Khulna. Having completed primary and secondary school in his native village, he entered first St. Francis Xavier Minor Seminary and then St. Joseph's Intermediate Seminary in Ramna, Dhaka, attending Notre Dame College in Dhaka at the same time. He completed his studies in philosophy and theology for priestly formation at the Holy Spirit National Major Seminary in Dhaka. He was ordained a priest for Khulna on January 13, 1985. He then served as parochial vicar of St. Joseph's Cathedral in Khulna (1985-1992); a doctoral student in canon law at the Pontifical Urban University (1992-1996); parish priest of the cathedral (1996-1998); and vicar general of the Diocese of Khulna and deputy judicial vicar of the diocesan tribunal (1998-2011). From 2011 he served as diocesan administrator of the vacant see of Khulna. On May 4, 2012, he was appointed Bishop of Khulna. He received episcopal ordination on June 15, 2012, with Patrick D'Rozario as principal consecrator and Joseph Salvador Marino and Moses Montu Costa as co-consecrators.
