Bishop of La Crosse
Bishop Gerard William Battersby, Bishop of La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA, was born on 15 May 1960 in the Archdiocese of Detroit, Michigan. After obtaining a bachelor's degree in biology at Wayne State University, he completed ecclesiastical studies at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. He was ordained a priest on 30 May 1998 for the Archdiocese of Detroit. He held the following offices and pursued further studies: parochial vicar of Saint Thecla in Clinton Township from 1998 to 2000 and of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Detroit from 2000 to 2001; pastor of Saint Christopher from 2001 to 2007, Saint Leo from 2007 to 2009, and Saint Mary's of Redford in Detroit from 2015 to 2016; licentiate in Theology in 2008; director of formation from 2007 to 2009 and vice rector from 2011 to 2016 at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. Appointed titular Bishop of Eguga and Auxiliary Bishop of Detroit on 23 November 2016, he received episcopal consecration on the following 25 January.
