Bishop of Świdnica
Marek Mendyk was born on March 18, 1961, in Głuszyca. After completing his secondary education, he entered the Major Seminary of Wrocław in 1981. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Wrocław on May 23, 1987. Following his ordination, he served for four years as a parochial vicar in Dzierżoniów. In 1992, he was incardinated into the newly established Diocese of Legnica. He completed his theological studies at the Catholic University of Lublin, obtaining a Doctorate in Theology there in 1995. Since 1995, he has served as Director of the Catechetical Section of the Diocesan Curia and as a lecturer at the Major Seminary and the Theological College in Legnica. He attended the University of Eichstätt from 1999 to 2000, and since 2001, he has been an adjunct professor at the Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Wrocław. Currently, he is a member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors (since 2004), a member of the Diocesan Council for Vocations (since 2006), President of the Commission for Catholic Instruction and Education for the first Diocesan Synod of Legnica, and—as of this year—responsible for pastoral care for persons with disabilities.
