Bishop of Itapeva
Bishop Eduardo Malaspina was born on 12 July 1967 in Tabatinga, diocese of São Carlos, in the State of São Paulo. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the diocesan seminary of São Carlos (1985-1987) and in theology at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas -SP (1988-1991). He was awarded a licentiate in communication science from the Salesian Pontifical University of Rome. He was ordained a priest on 13 December 1991, and incardinated in the diocese of São Carlos. He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Nossa Senhora do Patrocínio in Jaú-SP; parish administrator of Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Américo Brasiliense-SP; diocesan secretary and then coordinator for pastoral ministry; teacher at the preparatory seminary and the seminary of philosophy; chancellor; vicar general; parish priest of São Nicolau de Flüe in São Carlos-SP; member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors. On 7 March 2018 he was appointed titular bishop of Pupiana and auxiliary of São Carlos, and received episcopal ordination on the following 1 May. He was diocesan administrator of São Carlos from 2020 to 2021. Within the Regional Sul 1 of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil, he is president of hte Pastoral Commission of Liturgy.
