Archbishop of Tlalnepantla
José Antonio Fernández Hurtado was born on December 2, 1952, in Morelia. He entered the Minor Seminary of Tula in 1966 and subsequently spent two years at the Montezuma Seminary in the United States. He then continued his ecclesiastical studies at the Interregional Seminary of Tula. From 1986 to 1989, he studied at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome, where he obtained a Licentiate in Youth Ministry and Catechetics. He was ordained a priest on October 14, 1978, and incardinated into the Diocese of Tula. He has held the following positions: Diocesan Coordinator for Vocational Ministry (1979–1986), Diocesan Coordinator for Youth Ministry (1980–1983), Rector of the Minor Seminary (1989–1996), and Chancellor-Secretary of the Diocesan Curia while simultaneously serving as Diocesan Coordinator of the Commission for the Clergy (1990–1994). Currently, he is a Professor of Pastoral Theology at the Major Seminary; since 1995, he has been a member of the College of Consultors and the Council for Economic Affairs; he has served as Vicar General of Tula since 1994 and as Pastor of the Cathedral since 1996.
