Bishop Philippe Mousset

Philippe Mousset was born on May 27, 1955, in Le Guâ, in the Diocese of La Rochelle. After completing his classical studies, he attended the *Institut rural d’éducation et d’orientation* (IREO) in Cognac and worked with the aim of taking over the management of the family farm. In 1981, he entered the Major Seminary of Poitiers, where he completed the first cycle of philosophical and theological studies, followed by the second cycle at the seminary in Bordeaux. During the 2000–2001 academic year, he attended the *Institut de Formation des Éducateurs du Clergé* (IFEC) in Paris. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of La Rochelle on May 22, 1988. Following his ordination, he held the following ministerial roles: school chaplain and parochial vicar in Royan (1988–1991); head of youth ministry in La Rochelle (1991–2001); head of the diocesan Vocations Service and of vocations ministry for the Ecclesiastical Province of Poitiers (1996–2009); pastor of Saint-Paul parish in Mireuil, La Rochelle (2001–2009); and, from 2005 to 2009, Episcopal Vicar for the deaneries of La Rochelle, Marans, and Rochefort. Appointed Bishop of Pamiers on January 8, 2009, he was consecrated on March 15 of that year. Within the French Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the Council for Movements and Associations of the Faithful.
