Prelate of Aiquile
Jorge Herbas Balderrama, O.F.M., was born on June 1, 1963, in Mizque, within the Prelature of Aiquile. He completed his primary education in Aiquile, attending the "San Francisco de Asís" Vocational Boarding School and the Simón Rodríguez School. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the *Instituto Superior de Estudios Teológicos* (ISET) in Cochabamba. Subsequently, he obtained a Doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical University Antonianum in Rome. After entering the Franciscan Order, he made his first profession on February 3, 1986, and his solemn profession on August 12, 1989, becoming incardinated in the San Antonio Missionary Province in Bolivia. He was ordained a priest on December 27, 1990. Within the aforementioned Province, he held the following positions: Parish Priest of Santa Ana de la Recoleta in Sucre (1991–1993); Legal Advisor to the Province (1999–2002); Master of temporary-professed friars and theology students (1999–2005); and Provincial Definitor (1999–2005). At the time of his appointment, he held the following roles: Secretary for Formation and Studies of the Franciscan Province of San Antonio; President of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of First Instance of the Archdiocese of Cochabamba; Instructor for cases regarding dispensation from celibacy and Holy Orders; and Professor of Canon Law at the *Instituto Superior de Estudios Teológicos* (ISET) and at the Faculty of Civil Law of the Bolivian Catholic University. Furthermore, he is a member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors of the Archdiocese of Cochabamba, as well as Parochial Vicar of the "Madre de la Divina Providencia" parish in El Hospicio, Cochabamba.
