Archbishop of Guadalajara
Cardinal José Francisco Robles Ortega, Archbishop of Guadalajara, was born on March 2, 1949, in Mascota Municipality, Mexico, in the Diocese of Autlán. He studied at Pontifical Gregorian University. He was ordained a priest for Autlán on July 20, 1976, in Mascota. On April 30, 1991, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Bossa and Auxiliary Bishop of Toluca. He received episcopal ordination on June 5, 1991, at Toluca, with Alfredo Torres Romero as principal consecrator and José María Hernández González and Javier Lozano Barragán as co-consecrators. On June 15, 1996, he was appointed Bishop of Toluca. He was installed as Bishop of Toluca on July 15, 1996. On January 25, 2003, he was appointed Archbishop of Monterrey. He was installed as Archbishop of Monterrey on April 28, 2003. On November 24, 2007, he was appointed Cardinal-Priest of Santa Maria della Presentazione. He was installed as Cardinal-Priest of Santa Maria della Presentazione on October 25, 2008. On December 7, 2011, he was appointed Archbishop of Guadalajara. He was installed as Archbishop of Guadalajara on February 7, 2012. On December 23, 2021, he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Colima. He ceased to hold the office of Apostolic Administrator of Colima on July 13, 2023. He was created a cardinal on November 24, 2007, receiving the titular church of Santa Maria della Presentazione. His episcopal motto is "In Simplicitate Fidei".
