Bishop of Drohiczyn
Bishop Piotr Henryk Sawczuk, Bishop of Drohiczyn, was born on January 29, 1962, in Puczyce, in the parish of Kornica and the Diocese of Siedlce. After his secondary school leaving certificate, he was admitted to the major seminary in 1981. He was ordained a priest for Siedlce on June 6, 1987. For two years he was parochial vicar at Wisznice. From 1989 to 1996 he studied canon law at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, where in 1996 he obtained a doctorate in canon penal law with a thesis on communicatio in sacris. He has been a judge of the diocesan tribunal since 1993. He was notary of the diocesan curia (1996-2003) and a lecturer at the Theological Institute of Siedlce (1996-2011). He has served as a lecturer at the major seminary of Siedlce since 1996, chancellor of the diocesan curia since 2003, vicar general since 2009, and president of the commission of the diocesan synod since 2012. He has been an honorary canon since 2003 and a canon de numero of the cathedral chapter of Siedlce since 2009. In 2010 he was named a chaplain of His Holiness. On January 19, 2013, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Ottana and Auxiliary Bishop of Siedlce. He received episcopal ordination on April 6, 2013, at Siedlce, with Zbigniew Kiernikowski as principal consecrator and Celestino Migliore and Henryk Marian Tomasik as co-consecrators. On June 17, 2019, he was appointed Bishop of Drohiczyn, and he was installed on July 20, 2019.
