Bishop Vito Angiuli

Bishop Vito Angiuli, Bishop of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca, was born on August 6, 1952, in Sannicandro di Bari, in the Archdiocese of Bari-Bitonto. He completed his gymnasium and lyceum studies at the minor seminary of Bari and his philosophical and theological studies at the regional seminary of Molfetta. In 1993 he graduated in philosophy from the University of Bari, and in 1997 obtained a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He was ordained a priest for Bari-Bitonto on April 23, 1977, and exercised his priestly ministry as parochial vicar at Sannicandro di Bari (1977-1982); educator at the archiepiscopal seminary of Bari (1981-1982); vice-rector of the regional seminary of Molfetta (1982-1990); and from 1990 spiritual father of the regional seminary of Molfetta and lecturer at the Apulian Theological Institute. He was director of the diocesan pastoral office (1993-1998); episcopal vicar for pastoral care (1994-1998); and episcopal vicar for evangelisation and director of the diocesan catechetical office (1995-1998). From 1998 he served as pro-vicar general of Bari-Bitonto, and from 2000 as lecturer at the Institute of Religious Sciences of Bari and director of the Odegitria Higher Institute of Religious Sciences of Bari. He was named a supernumerary apostolic protonotary on March 5, 2000, and has been a canon of the cathedral chapter of Bari since 2002. He is the author of publications on philosophical, theological, historical and catechetical subjects. On October 2, 2010, he was appointed Bishop of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca. He received episcopal ordination on December 4, 2010, at Bari, with Francesco Cacucci as principal consecrator and Benigno Luigi Papa and Domenico Umberto D'Ambrosio as co-consecrators. He was installed as Bishop of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca on December 19, 2010.
