Archbishop Walmor Oliveira de Azevedo

Walmor Oliveira de Azevedo was born on April 26, 1954, in Cocos, in the Diocese of Bom Jesus da Lapa, in the State of Bahia. After completing his primary education in Caetité, he pursued studies in philosophy and theology at the Saint Anthony Seminary of the Archdiocese of Juiz de Fora. While in Rome as a student at the Pontifical Brazilian College, he obtained a Licentiate in Biblical Sciences from the Pontifical Biblical Institute (1977–1980) and a degree in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University (1985). He was ordained a priest on September 9, 1977, and incardinated into the clergy of Juiz de Fora. He subsequently held the following positions: Coordinator of the Theology Program at the archdiocesan seminary; formator and Professor of Biblical Exegesis; parish priest of *Nossa Senhora da Conceição*; Rector of the seminary; professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro; Director of the Department of Religious Sciences at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora; and member of the Archdiocesan College of Consultors. On January 21, 1998, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Caliabria and Auxiliary Bishop of São Salvador da Bahia, receiving episcopal ordination on May 10 of that year. On January 28, 2004, he was promoted to Archbishop of Belo Horizonte.
