Bishop of Fulda
Michael Gerber was born on January 17, 1970, in Oberkirch, in the Archdiocese of Freiburg im Breisgau. He completed his philosophical and theological studies in Freiburg, spending one academic year at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. In 2007, he obtained his doctorate in Theology in Freiburg. He was ordained a priest on May 11, 1997, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Freiburg im Breisgau. Following his ordination, he served as an assistant pastor in Malsch/Ettlingen (1997–1999) and then as the person responsible for student pastoral care in Freiburg-Littenweiler (1999–2001). Subsequently, at the *Collegium Borromaeum*—the archdiocesan theological residence in Freiburg—he served as a staff member (specifically, a *Repetitor*) from 2001 to 2002 and later as Deputy Director (2002–2006). After the merger of that residence with the St. Peter Archdiocesan Seminary, he served as Vice-Rector of the newly formed *Collegium Borromaeum* Archdiocesan Seminary (2006–2011). He has served as Rector of the same seminary since 2011.
