Bishop of San Marco Argentano-Scalea
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of San Marco Argentano-Scalea presented by H.E. Msgr. Leonardo Bonanno and has appointed Msgr. Rega—a priest of the Diocese of Aversa, currently serving as parish priest and Director of the Diocesan Vocations Center—as Bishop of the same diocese. H.E. Msgr. Stefano Rega, Bishop of San Marco Argentano-Scalea, was born on December 30, 1968, in Villaricca (Naples). He attended the Major Archiepiscopal Seminary of Naples and the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy, obtaining a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1993, and incardinated into the Diocese of Aversa. He has held the following positions: educator at the Major Archiepiscopal Seminary of Naples (1996–2003); collaborator at the Parish of Saints Joseph and Euphemia in Carditello (1999–2003); Rector of the Diocesan Seminary of Aversa, Delegate for seminarians of the Major Seminary, and collaborator at the Parishes of Maria Santissima delle Grazie and Saint Luke the Evangelist in Giugliano (2003–2017); member of the Diocesan Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors; and Director of the Diocesan Office for Vocations Ministry. Since 2017, he has served as parish priest of the Saint Nicholas of Bari Parish in Giugliano in Campania.
