Archbishop of Spoleto-Norcia
Renato Boccardo is Archbishop of Spoleto-Norcia, Italy. Renato Boccardo was born in S. Ambrogio, Turin, on 21 December 1952. He was ordained a priest on 25 June 1977 and was incardinated in Susa. He holds a degree in canon law. He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 1 May 1982 and subsequently served in the Pontifical Representations in Bolivia, Cameroon, and France; at the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff as pontifical master of ceremonies; and at the Pontifical Council for the Laity, where he was head of the Youth Section office. On 1 February 2001 he was appointed head of protocol with special duties in the Section for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State, with responsibility, which he continued to have, for organizing the apostolic journeys of the Supreme Pontiff. He knows French, English, and Spanish.
