Bishop of Bà Rịa
The Holy Father appoints a new Coadjutor Bishop for the Diocese of Bà Rịa – WHĐ (November 27, 2015) – Today, November 27, 2015, the Holy See Press Office announced that Pope Francis has appointed Father Emmanuel Nguyễn Hồng Sơn, Vicar General of the Diocese of Bà Rịa, as Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Bà Rịa. Biography of the new Bishop Emmanuel Nguyễn Hồng Sơn: – Born on January 2, 1952, in Biên Hòa, Đồng Nai Province – 1963–1971: Studied at Saint Joseph Minor Seminary, Saigon – 1971–1977: Studied at Saint Pius X Pontifical Institute, Đà Lạt – December 31, 1980: Ordained a priest for the Diocese of Xuân Lộc. After his ordination, he held the following positions: – 1981–1991: First parish priest of Bình Sơn Parish and administrator of the pastoral stations of Suối Trầu, Chốt Thái, Cẩm Đường, and Suối Quýt – 1991–2001: Parish priest of Phước Lễ Parish – 2001–2006: Studied at the Catholic Institute of Paris and graduated with an advanced degree in Dogmatic Theology. On November 22, 2005, the Diocese of Bà Rịa was established, separated from the Diocese of Xuân Lộc, with Bishop Thomas Nguyễn Văn Trâm as its first bishop; Father Nguyễn Hồng Sơn became a priest of the Diocese of Bà Rịa. – Since 2006: In charge of ongoing priestly formation, Director of seminarians, Secretary General of the Diocesan Presbyteral Council, and in charge of Saint Thomas Minor Seminary in Hải Sơn – Since 2011: Vicar General of the Diocese of Bà Rịa.
