Bishop of Itaguaí
Paulo Celso Dias do Nascimento was born on April 14, 1963, in Lagarto, in the Diocese of Estância, in the State of Sergipe. He pursued his studies in philosophy at the João Paulo II Ecclesiastical Faculty of Philosophy in Rio de Janeiro and at the Federal University of Ceará, and his studies in theology at the Catholic University of Salvador. He was ordained a priest on May 13, 1989, and incardinated into the Diocese of Estância. He held the following positions and undertook further studies: Parochial Vicar in Lagarto (1989–1992) and Parish Priest of São Francisco de Assis in Cristinápolis (1993–1996); a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Higher Institute of Canon Law and a psychology course at the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro; Parochial Vicar of Nossa Senhora de Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro; and hospital chaplain. In 2012, he was incardinated into the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro and served as the Archdiocesan Coordinator for Healthcare Pastoral Care. On October 27, 2017, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Agunto and Auxiliary Bishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, receiving episcopal ordination on January 6, 2018.
