Bishop of Apucarana
Bishop Carlos José de Oliveira, Bishop of Apucarana, was born on October 17, 1967, in Botucatu, in the State of São Paulo. He studied philosophy and theology at the Nossa Senhora da Assunção Pontifical Faculty in São Paulo, and later obtained a licentiate in moral theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1996) and a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (2016). He was ordained a deacon on December 8, 1991, and a priest for Mogi das Cruzes on October 4, 1992. In that diocese he served as parish administrator of Nossa Senhora da Paz in Mogi das Cruzes, rector of the propaedeutic seminary, coordinator of vocations ministry and secretary of the presbyteral council (1992-1994). He was incardinated in Botucatu, his archdiocese of origin, on January 1, 1996, where he served as archdiocesan assessor for family ministry (1997-1999 and 2002-2007); head of the archdiocesan news bulletin (1999-2005); archdiocesan coordinator of pastoral care (2001-2009); executive secretary for pastoral care of the Ecclesiastical Province of Botucatu (2003-2005); coordinator of the Second Archdiocesan Eucharistic Congress (2008); coordinator of the presbyteral council (2001-2007); a member of the formation council from 2001; and professor at the theological institute of the João Paulo II Faculty of the Ecclesiastical Province of Botucatu at Marília from 1997. On October 4, 2007, he was named a chaplain of His Holiness. He served as parish priest and rector of the shrine of Nossa Senhora da Piedade at Lençóis Paulista from 1996, and as vicar general from 2016. On December 12, 2018, he was appointed Bishop of Apucarana. He received episcopal ordination on March 19, 2019, with Giovanni d'Aniello as principal consecrator and Maurício Grotto de Camargo and Celso Antônio Marchiori as co-consecrators. He was installed as Bishop of Apucarana on April 6, 2019. His episcopal motto is "Cum Maria matre Iesu".
