Altar Servers

Liturgical

The altar server assists the priest and deacon during Mass. Some duties include holding liturgical books for the priest, bringing the sacred vessels to the altar, assisting with the gifts at the offertory and ringing the altar bells. Altar servers also assist at other liturgical celebrations.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Liturgical

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (‘Eucharistic Ministers’) assist in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Holy Communion when there is an insufficient number of priests and deacons at Mass, and bring Communion to the homebound and health care facilities. Eucharistic Ministers are practicing Catholics who have completed a preparation and instructional session, and are then commissioned for this ministry. They possess reverence and love for the Eucharist.

Greeters/Ushers

Liturgical

Greeters and ushers welcome parishioners and visitors coming to Church and answer questions that might come up. Ushers take up the offertory collection and other special collections, and are watchful for emergencies. Greeters and ushers are friendly, personable, able to interact with a wide variety of people.

Lectors

Liturgical

Lectors (or Readers) bring the living Word of God to the liturgical assembly by proclaiming the readings from Sacred Scripture. Lectors are practicing Catholics who read well and are comfortable with public reading.

Liturgical Environment

Liturgical

Those involved in this ministry help create a prayerful environment to draw us into a deeper awareness of God through creation. They have a knowledge and understanding of the guidelines the Church has given (or are willing to learn), as well as an understanding and appreciation of the liturgical seasons in the Church year.

Music Ministers

Liturgical

Music ministers are choir members, leaders of song, cantors, organists, pianists and other instrumentalists. Music ministers encourage and lead the assembly in sung prayer. The cantor proclaims the Responsorial Psalm in song. All music ministers are committed to spiritual growth, and have a basic understanding and appreciation for the Mass and its structure, and of the liturgical year.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer & Devotional

Anyone with knitting/crocheting skills (or those desiring to learn) is welcome to join the Prayer Shawl group on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 P.M. The group meets at Church of St. Mary right inside the main entrance in the Cry Room.

Sacristans

Liturgical

The sacristan plays an important role in the smooth celebration of each Mass. Sacristans prepare and oversee the articles and elements required for the Liturgy. This includes liturgical books, lighting candles, setting out adequate altar breads and wine, as well as being present if the priest needs additional help. The sacristan has a love and respect for the Eucharist.
