Archbishop of Makassar
Fransiskus Nipa was born on January 29, 1964, in Mareali, in the Archdiocese of Makassar. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the Wedabhakti Theological Faculty in Yogyakarta (Diocese of Semarang) and subsequently obtained a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on July 3, 1990. He has held the following positions: Parochial Vicar of Messawa-Mamasa (1990–1995); Parish Priest of Polewali (1995–1997); Defender of the Bond at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal (2000–2005); Director of the Spiritual Orientation Year for Archdiocesan seminarians (2000–2002); Archdiocesan Secretary-Chancellor and Private Secretary to the Archbishop (2002–2013); Judge at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal (since 2005); Judicial Vicar (since 2006); and Parochial Vicar of the Cathedral of Makassar (since 2013). Furthermore, he taught at the Toraja Catechetical-Pastoral Institute. Finally, he has served as a member of various Archdiocesan councils and commissions: the Board of Directors of the Paulus Archdiocesan Educational Foundation, the Presbyteral Council and College of Consultors, and the Archdiocesan Council for Economic Affairs.
