Bishop of Catamarca
Bishop Luis Urbanč, Bishop of Catamarca, was born on July 25, 1958, in Buenos Aires, to a family of Slovene emigrants. He entered the minor seminary of Tucumán at a very young age and was ordained a priest for Tucumán on May 30, 1982. He served as parochial vicar until 1984, when he went to Rome, where he obtained a licentiate in sacred scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute. Returning to Tucumán in 1987, he began teaching at the major seminary, work he continued thereafter. From 1989 to 1995 he was parish priest successively of the churches of San Pío X and of Nuestra Señora de Fátima. In 1995 he became rector of the Nuestra Señora de las Nieves y San José Interdiocesan Major Seminary of Tucumán. On October 7, 2000, he was granted the title of prelate of honour of His Holiness. On November 14, 2006, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Catamarca. He received episcopal ordination on March 10, 2007, with Luis Héctor Villalba as principal consecrator and Mario Antonio Cargnello and Elmer Osmar Ramón Miani as co-consecrators. He succeeded to the see as Bishop of Catamarca on December 27, 2007. His episcopal motto is "Fiat voluntas tua".
