Bishop of Margarita
Bishop Fernando José Castro Aguayo, Bishop of Margarita, was born in Caracas on 29 July 1951. He obtained a degree as a civil engineer from the Andrés Bello Catholic University of Caracas. He completed ecclesiastical studies in philosophy and theology at the Studium Generale of the Prelature of Opus Dei in Venezuela and at the College of the Holy Cross in Rome. He obtained a doctorate in theology from the University of Navarra in Spain. He received priestly ordination in Rome on 31 May 1984 for the Personal Prelature of Opus Dei. As a priest he held the following offices: chaplain of the Monteavila University Center, the Guayacán Cultural Center, and Los Arcos High School in Caracas; rector of the Church of the Holy Family of Nazareth in Caracas; professor of theology at the Studium Generale of Opus Dei and at the major seminary of Caracas; archpriest of Baruta; episcopal vicar for pastoral ministry; and head of the eastern zone of the Archdiocese of Caracas. On 27 June 2009 he was appointed titular Bishop of Ampora and Auxiliary of Caracas, Venezuela. He received episcopal ordination on the following 26 September.
