Bishop of Avellino
Bishop Arturo Aiello, Bishop of Avellino, Italy, was appointed by the Pope as Bishop of Avellino and transferred from the Diocese of Teano-Calvi. Bishop Aiello was born in Vico Equense, in the Archdiocese of Sorrento-Castellammare di Stabia and the province of Naples, on 14 May 1955. As a student of the Campanian Regional Seminary of Naples, he followed courses in philosophy and theology at the Theological Faculty of Naples, Saint Luigi Section, obtaining the baccalaureate in 1979 and attending courses in Sacred Scripture. In 1987 he graduated in sociology from the Federico II State University of Naples. He was ordained a priest on 7 July 1979. He served as parish vicar and parish priest of the parish of Saint Michael the Archangel, zonal vicar, episcopal vicar for liturgy and ministries and episcopal delegate for the clergy, assistant of the FIR and promoter of the diocesan youth day, coordinator of the pastoral unit, episcopal delegate for consecrated life, spiritual father in the diocesan major seminary, member of the presbyteral council, and member of the college of consultors. Elected to the episcopal see of Teano-Calvi on 13 May 2006, he received episcopal consecration on the following 30 June. Within the Italian Episcopal Conference he is a member of the Episcopal Commission for the Clergy and Consecrated Life.
