Bishop of Luziânia
Bishop Francisco Agamenilton Damascena, Bishop of Luziânia, Goiás, Brazil, was born on 26 June 1975 in Currais Novos, in the Diocese of Caicó, in the State of Rio Grande do Norte. He studied philosophy at the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Archdiocesan Major Seminary in Brasília-DF and then at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome, where he also obtained a licentiate in philosophy and a bachelor's degree in theology. He earned a specialization in university teaching at Faculdade Mário Schenberg in Cotia, in the State of São Paulo, and a doctorate in philosophy at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on 19 March 2001 and incardinated in the Diocese of Uruaçu. In that diocese he served as parish administrator, parochial vicar, parish priest, chancellor of the diocesan curia, diocesan coordinator of pastoral ministry, academic director of the diaconal school, vice-rector and professor of São José Major Seminary, member of the presbyteral council, member of the council of formators, member of the college of consultors, and diocesan administrator of Uruaçu. He was also academic director and professor of the Sapientiae Institute of Philosophy in the Diocese of Anápolis. From 19 February 2019 to 12 September 2020 he was diocesan administrator of Uruaçu. On 23 September 2020 he was appointed Bishop of Rubiataba-Mozarlândia, receiving episcopal ordination on the following 6 December. Within the Brazilian Episcopal Conference he is secretary of the Centro-Oeste region and a member of the Episcopal Commission for Culture and Education.
