Archbishop of Nagpur
Elias Gonsalves was born on July 4, 1961, in Chulne, in the Diocese of Vasai. He attended school in Sandor, Vasai, and subsequently entered the St. Pius College Archdiocesan Seminary in Goregaon in 1983. He earned a Bachelor's degree in History and Economics from the University of Bombay and a diploma from the Coady Institute in Nova Scotia, Canada, where he specialized in Social Development and Community Building. He was ordained a priest on April 11, 1990, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Bombay. When the Diocese of Vasai was established, he opted to remain with the Archdiocese of Bombay. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1990–1991: Assistant Parish Priest at Holy Spirit Church, Nandakal, Vasai; 1991–1997: Assistant Parish Priest at St. Thomas Church, Sandor, Vasai; 1997–2004: Priest-in-charge of Sacred Heart Parish, Roha, Raigad; 1999–2004: Member of the Presbyteral Council; from 2001: Dean of Raigad; 2004–2005: Diploma studies in Canada; 2005–2008: Parish Priest of St. Francis Church, Panvel, Raigad; 2008–2009: Assistant Director of Social Work; from 2009: Director of Social Work.
