Archbishop of Juiz de Fora
Archbishop Marco Aurélio Gubiotti, Archbishop of Juiz de Fora, was born on October 21, 1963, in Ouro Fino, in the Archdiocese of Pouso Alegre. He completed his middle studies (1979-1982) and philosophy at the archiepiscopal seminary of Pouso Alegre (1983-1985), and theology at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Theological Institute of the Dehonian Fathers at Taubaté (1986-1989). He later obtained a licentiate in biblical theology from the Nossa Senhora da Assunção Faculty in São Paulo (1997-1999). He was ordained a priest for Pouso Alegre on December 14, 1989, and was incardinated in that archdiocese, where he served as parochial vicar and parish priest of several parishes, rector of the Interdiocesan Theological Institute of Pouso Alegre (2000-2006) and rector of the Catholic Faculty of Pouso Alegre (2006-2010). He also served as professor of theology, parish priest of Nossa Senhora de Fátima in Pouso Alegre and a member of the archdiocesan presbyteral council. On February 21, 2013, he was appointed Bishop of Itabira-Fabriciano. He received episcopal ordination on May 26, 2013, with José Francisco Rezende Dias as principal consecrator and Ricardo Pedro Chaves Pinto Filho and Darci José Nicioli as co-consecrators. He was installed as Bishop of Itabira-Fabriciano on June 16, 2013. On January 8, 2026, he was appointed Archbishop of Juiz de Fora, and he was installed on March 7, 2026. His episcopal motto is "Pela graça de Deus".
