Archbishop of Poznań
Zbigniew Zieliński was born on January 14, 1965, in Gdańsk. After passing his final exams at the "Conradinum" shipyard technical school in Gdańsk, he qualified as a mechanic in 1987. That same year, he was admitted to the Major Seminary of Gdańsk. He was ordained a priest for the same archdiocese on May 18, 1991. From 1991 to 2000, he served as a parochial vicar in Gdańsk (at the parish of Our Lady of Sorrows) and at the Cathedral in Gdańsk-Oliva (Holy Trinity). From 2000 to 2008, he was the Director of the Curia’s Department for Pastoral Care and was responsible for the pilgrimage of the image of the Merciful Jesus to all parishes in the archdiocese. In 2004, he obtained a doctorate in Pastoral Theology from Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw. From 2004 to 2006, he taught the Sociology of Religion at the University of Gdańsk. From 2004 to 2007, he served as pastor of St. Michael’s parish in Sopot and subsequently as pastor of the Cathedral in Gdańsk-Oliva (Holy Trinity). He is currently the pastor of the co-cathedral, a member of the Commission for Canonical Parish Visits, the Presbyteral Council, and the College of Consultors, as well as a lecturer in Pastoral Theology at the Major Seminary. Additionally, he is responsible for the pastoral care of the Forest Guard and the Semper Fidelis Association. In 2007, he was named a Chaplain of His Holiness.
