Bishop Luiz Henrique da Silva Brito

Luiz Henrique da Silva Brito was born on May 19, 1967, in São Gonçalo, in the Archdiocese of Niterói, in the State of Rio de Janeiro. He pursued his philosophy studies at the Paulo VI Seminary in Nova Iguaçu (1986) and the São José Seminary in Rio de Janeiro (1987), and his theology studies at the Institute of Theology of the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro (1987–1990). He subsequently obtained a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Higher Institute of Canon Law in Rio de Janeiro (1991–1992) and a Licentiate in Moral Theology from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome (2003–2005). He was ordained a priest on December 14, 1991, and incardinated into the Diocese of Campos, where he held the following roles: Parish Administrator of São Sebastião in Campos; Parish Priest of the parishes of Santo Antônio de Pádua, Santa Helena, and São Benedito; Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator; Auditor Judge; Spiritual Director of the Maria Imaculada Diocesan Seminary; Diocesan Chancellor; Moderator of the Diocesan Curia; and member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors. Furthermore, he served as Defender of the Bond at the Interdiocesan Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Niterói and as a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Campos and the Archdiocesan Seminary of Niterói. On February 29, 2012, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Zallata and Auxiliary Bishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, receiving episcopal ordination on May 12 of that same year.
