Dictating your prompt
Dictation lets you speak your prompt and have it transcribed into the chat box for you to review before sending. It's separate from Voice Mode, which is a full spoken conversation.
Dictation is a Pro feature on the web — it shares the same realtime audio service as Voice Mode. The microphone icon only appears for Pro, Organization, and Large Organization users.
Start dictating
- Click the microphone icon next to the submit button. (Your browser will ask for microphone permission the first time.)
- Speak your prompt.
- Click the icon again (or wait for it to finish) to stop.
- Review the transcript in the box, edit if needed, and press Enter to send.

Keyboard shortcut
Press Control+D to start and stop dictation without clicking the button.
Dictation vs Voice Mode
- Dictation converts speech to text in the prompt box. You still review and send like a typed message.
- Voice Mode is a live two-way conversation — the AI answers you out loud.
If your text box is empty and you're signed in, you'll see the waveform icon for Voice Mode instead of the microphone. When the text box has content, the microphone re-appears.
Troubleshooting
- If the microphone icon doesn't appear, make sure you're signed in to a Pro+ plan and the text box isn't hidden behind a Voice Mode session.
- If transcription is inaccurate, try speaking a bit slower and pausing between sentences.
- Some browsers restrict microphone access on non-HTTPS pages — use magisterium.com directly.
