Bishop of Coari
Marek Marian Piatek, C.SS.R., was born on October 10, 1954, in the town of Tuchów, in the Diocese of Tarnów (Poland). He is a member of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists), in which he made his first religious profession on August 15, 1974. After completing his philosophical and theological studies at the Redemptorist seminary in his hometown, he obtained a Doctorate in Moral Theology from the Alphonsian Academy in Rome. He was ordained a priest on June 5, 1980, and six years later was sent as a missionary to Brazil—specifically to the Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia—where he served as a formator for theology students (1987–1990) and as a professor of Moral Theology at the Catholic University of São Salvador da Bahia, the University of São Bento, and the Higher Institute of Studies on Marriage and the Family. From 2000 to 2010, he served as parish priest of the Ressurreição do Senhor parish in Salvador. On June 15, 2011, he was appointed Bishop-Prelate of Coari, receiving episcopal ordination on August 12 of that year.
