Bishop of Cuernavaca
Ramón Castro Castro is Bishop of Cuernavaca, Morelos, México. He was born in Teocuitatlán de Corona, Archdiocese of Guadalajara, on 27 January 1956. He completed philosophical and theological studies at the major seminary of Tijuana. He obtained a doctorate in Spirituality at the Teresianum and a licentiate in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He received priestly ordination on 13 May 1982 for the Diocese of Tijuana. In 1985 he entered the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy. From 1989 to 2004 he served successively at the pontifical representations in Zambia, Malawi, Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe, Ukraine, Venezuela, Paraguay, and at the Secretariat of State. On 2 April 2004 he was appointed titular Bishop of Suelli and Auxiliary of the Archdiocese of Yucatàn. He received episcopal ordination on 2 June of the same year. On 8 April 2006 he was appointed Bishop of Campeche. Within the Mexican Episcopal Conference, for the period 2012-2015, he was elected head of the Justice, Peace, and Reconciliation Dimension of the Episcopal Commission for Social Pastoral Care.
