Bishop of Lodi
Bishop Maurizio Malvestiti, Bishop of Lodi, was born on August 25, 1953, in Marne, in the Diocese of Bergamo. After his ecclesiastical studies at the episcopal seminary of Bergamo, he was ordained a priest for Bergamo on June 11, 1977, in Bergamo, and subsequently continued his academic studies in theology in Rome. He served as parochial vicar at Pedrengo, and from 1978 to 1994 as educator, teacher and vice-rector of the middle school of the seminary of Bergamo, festive coadjutor in the parish of Suisio, vice-rector of the lyceum community of the seminary, and a student in Rome. From 1994 to 2009 he was an official and then head of office at the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, serving as private secretary to the three cardinal prefects who successively led it. On June 19, 2009, he was appointed Under Secretary of the same congregation, also serving as head of its office for studies and formation, a member of the bilateral commissions between the Holy See and the States of Israel and Palestine, a lecturer at the Pontifical Oriental Institute and rector of the church of San Biagio degli Armeni in Rome. He speaks English and French. He was named a chaplain of His Holiness in 1996 and a prelate on August 26, 2006. On August 26, 2014, he was appointed Bishop of Lodi. He received episcopal ordination on October 11, 2014, at Roma, with Leonardo Sandri as principal consecrator and Francesco Beschi and Giuseppe Merisi as co-consecrators. He was installed as Bishop of Lodi on October 26, 2014. His episcopal motto is "In silentio et spe".
